Ritianne Schembri joined Evolve more than five years ago, and firmly believes it is a great place to work.
Ritianne has found inspiration throughout her working career and her passion is championing the potential of her team, motivating them and making sure that they always deliver for our customers.
We spoke to Ritianne about what life is like as the Team Leader of the Project and Technical Department at Evolve.
What do you value most about working at Evolve?
As a working mum, Evolve’s family-friendly policies are a huge bonus. Our company culture allows me to juggle the needs of my children with the demands of my career. I really appreciate that. I also value the fact that in any decision, as difficult as it might be, we use our P.R.I.D.E values – Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Exceeding Expectations – to arrive at the right solution.
How would you describe your job to someone who doesn’t know what you do?
It’s usually a happy and crazy mix of non-stop phone calls and emails, plus people knocking on my office door every five minutes. Seriously though, I manage two important aspects of Evolve’s work, the projects side and the technical team.
I oversee a group of field service engineers who help our customers with hands-on support. Sometimes this work can save lives, especially if the client is a major hospital with doctors, nurses and patients who are depending on you to deliver.
I also lead our turnkey projects for the pharmaceutical industry and medical cannabis sector. This involves managing the process from the very first design draft all the way to the official opening of the facility. It’s incredibly satisfying work and is almost like sowing a seed and watching it grow and develop into a beautiful flower.
Ritianne, what’s the most important thing about your job?
Trust, teamwork and clear communication between all interested parties. If you don’t have all three, it makes work very difficult.
As a child what did you dream you’d be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be a doctor.
Where’s your favourite place in the world and why?
I fell in love with the Dolomites, a mountain range in northeastern Italy. I also like visiting quiet places that are surrounded by nature. With Evolve, I went to Ghana on a business trip and was very curious to see the place. The first thing I noticed when I arrived was that everyone was smiling and looked content with life. I’d like to go back to Ghana to broaden my experience of the country.
When are you at your happiest?
When I’m relaxing on a deckchair in the sunshine surrounded by my children.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
People who judge others unfairly. I firmly believe that you should never judge a book by its cover. Never assume anything at first glance. You don’t know what that person has been through to get to where they are today.
